Heart Forward Leadership in Life and Organizations—it’s ALL about Relationships
For years, “It’s ALL about relationships” was written on the white board in my office. Years of hard work and long hours taught me that getting things done in life and work is always about relationships, and yet so many of us struggle with how to do relationships well.
Having just completed the process of becoming a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (based on the research and work of Brené Brown), I am reflecting on how all the various things I do for work and what I am most passionate about in life fit together into a cohesive whole, and I want to share a bit more with you about what gets me jazzed and where my sweet spots are when it comes to helping others, and especially what I think it takes to re-humanize workplace cultures.
My Personal Manifesto for Life and Work
I am most curious about what keeps people and organizations from being their best, and what stands in the way of letting go of the pain, patterns, and suffering that keep showing up. We – all of us – bring ourselves everywhere we go, and I believe we deserve to be our best and so do the organizations in which we work. And, the time to get there is now, as there may not be a later. And the path to get there is all about our hearts.
I stand with, support, and facilitate others doing their work, which is imperative for people and organizations to move from victim to survivor to thrivor. I am most passionate about the endless possibilities that come when we courageously name what hurts us, allow ourselves to grieve for what we have lost or haven’t yet been able to realize, and to finally let go of the ideas and patterns that keep us stuck and/or living small.
I inspire others to be courageous, vulnerable, and truthful and to embody kindness, compassion, and joy in as many ways possible. When we each clear our paths, we can rise up and shine our light on the dark corners of the universe. And then, everything is possible.
The values that guide me are always remaining humble, brave, and true to myself and what I know is truth while helping others be free of what burdens them. I love the messy journey. In my heart of hearts, I know that healing is possible if people are willing to take some risks, take responsibility for themselves, and stop blaming others for their circumstances. We are strong, and before we are anything else, we are all human beings, and I create and hold safe spaces for people to do just that.
I believe in the resilience of the human spirit and am a living example of how transformation is possible. I have done the work and inspire others to be courageous, vulnerable, and truthful and to embody kindness, compassion, and joy in as many ways possible. We each can and must rise to the challenge of being or becoming the change we wish to see in the world, and must never give up. The dark corners of the universe cannot persist when the light within each of us beams brightly, as we stand strong and speak our truth from a place of wholeness and wholeheartedness.
I stand with all for whom the struggle is real. Those who long to find their voices and heal their wounded hearts. Those who are hurting but don’t yet know there is another way–those whose hearts cannot yet see. To help let go of chaos and insecurity and pain whether it be physical, mental, or emotional and be free of suffering and find peace.
